The Temple Institute in Jerusalem has spent $27 million preparing for the coming of the Messiah. They have manufactured utensils including silver trumpets, golden candlesticks, harps, and garments for the High Priest woven from golden thread. When asked when the Messiah will come, Temple Institute director Yehuda Glick replies, “All that we know is that we are now living in the age of miracles and all of those miracles are predicted in the Book as happening on the eve of the end of days. It could well be tomorrow, but it might be another 100 years, or even 400 years” (“Jews Raise Millions to Be Ready for Coming of the Messiah,” Sydney Morning Herald, Nov. 14, 2009).

We will examine a condition that has developed in our erstwhile great nation, which has brought us to a time such as never was. We are living in a time that is unique in our nation’s history, and very few people are taking notice. The United States of America was founded by men and women that wanted to escape oppression and to be free, and great effort was exerted to gain that freedom. We now live in the dark reality of a strong-armed and oppressive federalism that has all of the characteristics and potential of imperial Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece, and Rome. Indeed, we are on the very brink of dictatorship in a new world order, just as predicted in various places in the Scriptures. How can this be happening here? Just one generation ago, it would not have been believed to be possible. I was born in the year 1950 and have lived in Wisconsin all of my life. I can truly say that this country is no longer the one in which I was born. We are living in a time when people want to be slaves of a government that will feed them, medicate them, entertain them, indoctrinate them, confiscate the fruit of their labors, and bury them.

We will consider a very sobering subject of the utmost urgency. We have watched for years how our government, educational systems, churches, financial institutions, and nearly every other endeavor of man has increasingly entertained the agenda of Satan in its many faceted forms and guises. The conspiratorial forces of antichrist have been working for so long now that the original purposes of these institutions are hardly recognizable, and their causes are long ago forgotten. What will happen next?

The Lord Jesus likened the days preceding His return to the days of Noah (Matthew 24:37), and the Bible says that those days were characterized by great violence. “The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence” (Genesis 6:11). The earth today is also filled with violence. Wicked, demon-possessed men are on a rampage, even murdering little children like Caylee Anthony, the three-year-old Florida girl that has been the focus of many news reports. Between 1976 and 1994 roughly 37,000 children were murdered in America alone. What is the cause of this world’s great troubles? The Bible says that the problem lies in man’s heart. It is not his environment or his lack of self-esteem or his poverty. It is his fallen heart. “And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually” (Gen. 6:5). This is why the United Nations will never bring peace to the earth. It cannot change man’s heart. UN workers can’t even change their own wicked hearts. Only Jesus Christ can change a man from the inside out. There is peace today for those who trust Him, and there will be peace on earth when He returns to establish His righteous government with its headquarters in Jerusalem.
